Wednesday’s Weekly Wrap-Up (2017-01-11)

1

Wow I’ve done 4 of these weekly post things now! That’s like a month in total. Isn’t it? More proof that I can commit to something and follow through with it. Work’s been busy (I’m on a business trip and away from my home city right now), winter’s been cranky, and life’s been meh, but I knew I had to do one of these posts so I squeezed in some precious gaming time.

Backlog Battle Progress

My impromptu business trip interrupted the time I had set aside to play this game. I do have my PSP with me though so I should have more progress to report next week, hopefully. Life can be so unpredictable sometimes… Anyway, I still haven’t gone to the Sealed Cave yet. I’m exploring the Underworld first. Right now I’m trying to get all the shiny loot from Sylph Cave. I think it’s an area I’m not suppose to be in yet. Rosa knows Float which helps a lot, but the fights are tough. I’m struggling in an area with 6 trapped chests to open. I managed to get a Moonring Blade for Edge out of one. The other one I tried had a group of 6 annoying spirits, who kept putting everyone to sleep before I could do anything.

My stats now: Cecil Lv 36, Rosa Lv 35, Rydia Lv 34, Kain Lv 37, Edge Lv 29. After I’ve conquered the Sylph Cave, someone told me there’s some nice things in The Feymarch. I’ll definitely be stopping there next.

This week’s irrelevant side quest introduced me to the USS Constitution, a massive sea vessel marooned on top of savings and loan company building. The ship’s fate must have had something to do with all the nukes that were dropped a couple hundred years ago. The ship is run by deadly robots and overseen by the great Sentry Bot, Captain Ironsides (I see what they did there). My quest was to help the bots repair their ship and achieve their secret goal they refused to tell me about until the end. The quest was an easy collect stuff and kill angry people type of thing, but it was a bit time consuming. My good friend Hancock disapproved of one my decisions again but I still stand by it. After a moment of awe I couldn’t help but laugh hysterically at the final outcome of the quest.

My character is at level 24, and my good ghoul buddy still likes me even though we’ve disagreed on some issues lately. I’ve cleared all the easy side quests I had on the go, and if my needy settlements can just defend themselves for once, I will be resuming the main story now.

recore

I successfully conquered the optional dungeon Cavern Rush, with a mere 2 seconds left on the timer (I got too jumpy near the end and fell. Oh my nerves!). The trick to speed up my time was to use Joule‘s Dash ability on the platforms. When she’s in the air, she can use it again. This really helped with my time crunch. I must admit, even though I failed a lot, all the platforming in this dungeon was very exciting. It reminds me so much of the Jak and Daxter series, and I love it!

No level changes this week. There’s a dungeon called Assembly that I haven’t been in yet so I’m going to try that next. If I can find the damn entrance to it that is.

Games Shamefully Purchased:

Still none! I think I’ve found this willpower thing finally.

Random Weekly Ramblings

  • Special thanks to bobaandgames and Athena of AmbiGaming for nominating me for the prestigious One Lovely Blog award. I’m truly honored that these great bloggers have chosen me. I’ve already done one of these posts so I don’t want to bore the internet with more facts about my dull life. Honestly, it was hard enough coming up with the 7 facts I did there. If for some odd reason you’re actually interested, my post can be found here, but your time is much better spent checking out the two far better bloggers who nominated me.
  • I don’t watch many movies, and it’s a rare event when someone can convince me to willingly go into crowded movie theater. However, the coworker I’m traveling with suggested we go see the new Star Wars movie, Rogue One. I said what the hell, and I absolutely loved it! I really like how it tied in with the older movies, and it had that classic Star Wars vibe going for it. It was so depressing (especially with recent sad Hollywood events) yet inspiring at the same time. My only critique is that it needed more lightsabers. I guess I should quit stalling and watch the not-so-latest one soon too.
  • For no reason at all, here is an adorable kitten picture of my now 6 year old monsters. Okay, fine. I desperately need the views…

  1. I loved Rogue One! My mom, who has never seen a Star Wars film in her life, even liked it. I had to watch A New Hope as soon as I walked back through the door, haha. It was neat seeing how the end of Rogue One seamlessly transitions to the opening of A New Hope.

    Have a safe work trip!

  2. I think it’s funny that Ol’ Ironsides is being captained by a bot named Ironsides. It makes my boat-loving heart chuckle.

Also, Rogue One was great. Even though you could surmise what would happen to the characters, it was great to see how they connected the two trilogies. And the reveal of Princess Leia at the end was unexpected and amazing!

Thanks for the shout-out, too 🙂

    1. Fallout is full of humorous things like that. It’s a big reason why I like the series so much! 🙂

Agreed! It’s nice to know the adventure that happened to get the plans. So sad though…

No problem! Thanks again for the nomination.

  3. Your kittens are so cute! Awesome that you saw Rogue One! I was unfortunately spoiled going into it, so I didn’t appreciate it as much as I could have. Still a solid movie, as long as you don’t know what you’re getting into!

    1. Thank you! 🙂 I’m glad they are adult cats now. They were quite the cute destructive force at that age, haha. Sorry to hear it got spoiled for you. I knew a bit about it before I watched it, but not enough to ruin the ending. I know too much about Force Awakens so I’m not in a hurry to see it.

      1. I actually liked Force Awakens more, but I didn’t get spoiled on it. It’s a great reboot-like movie, especially for someone like me who didn’t grow up watching the original movies. I’ve seen them all, but I don’t have as much nostalgia for them.

  4. Fun fact about the USS Constitution: It is named after George Washington and it is recognized after the battles that she had served in the War of 1812 and the battle with another ship which was named Guerriere earned the ship a nickname by the name of “Old Ironsides.” which is the name of the Sentry bot in Fallout 4.

      1. No problem! Bethesda’s version of Fallout likes to use real world history to build the world which I don’t have a problem with.

I’ve been to the ship and took a tour of the ship around 2013, it is so great to learn about the ship’s history and it’s awesome. I was surprised when they first revealed the ship in the teaser trailer. 🙂

  5. *squeals when she sees kitens* I’m not kitting (ughhhh), I make noises that are not human whenever anything cute fluffs its way into my vision. Those naughty, little things could commit bloody murder, and I’d still worship the ground they skitter over. Cats own the internet anyway, which means they own everything. I mean it’s not like I purposely go on Instagram just to like and follow more cat-based blogs. Never!

You seem to be making great progress in FFIV despite silly work getting in the way. Don’t your employers realize there are video games to be played?? I always mix up the caves in the underworld. I think there are two or are there three? The Phantom World and Feymarch are interchangeable names, which doesn’t help. I think it was originally called the Phantom World and then later the Feymarch, but I could be entirely wrong about this, too.

The bleh winter is blehing along, although I have noticed the days getting longer. It’s no longer quite as dark when I leave work.

    1. Thanks for another horrible pun! It brightened my day 🙂 Cats seem to own most of humanity, and I’m okay with our furry overlords. The internet can never have too many cat pictures!

I really need to take a gaming vacation day after that. I think it’s only fair. The Phantom World name makes sense. There were a lot of otherworldly NPCs roaming around.

I’m so happy the days are getting longer! Spring will come soon… After another annoying time change of course.

      1. I would be totally okay with bowing to whims of furry overlords. It beats the current system :p

Since it’s the new year, I should take some days off just for the hell of it. After I factor in the time I want around the holidays and the two week vacation we’re required to take that is.

Ack I HATE spring forward. Daylight savings time is so obsolete. I was curious if it was just a US thing or if other places participated. It’s not even ubiquitous to the states. I think Arizona abstains from doing it.

        1. Almost anything beats the current system these days 😦

Our precious vacation days refresh after August. Some business fiscal year concept I never understood, haha.

The Spring one is the worst! It robs us of an hour. And not just any old hour, a valuable weekend hour *sobs* Saskatchewan is the rebel province here who doesn’t do it. It’s so dated and annoying. It needs to stop!

  6. My week: continue second week of new job, move flat to a house (today), comb eyebrows, curse how long it’ll take to shift my broadband over to new house, pre-order the Nintendo Switch with Zelda and Mario Kart 8 – Deluxe, read three books, and plan the purchase of a house cat. When I was younger I could dig all this madness. Now I want everything to be ordered and normal, dammit!

I realise this is a highly self-indulgent comment here, but I believe the more you do this on WordPress (and social media), the more people will flock towards you. Narcissism is a magnet.

As such, many of my future posts will be along the lines of: “I ordered this Big Mac – look at it (and me)! It’s dribbling! lol”. Then I’ll upload 30 selfies and wear one of those man shirts and a gold medallion whilst pouting. It’s the golden formula.

Are your cats house cats, by the way?!?!?! It’s the route I’m planning.

    1. Wow sir! It sounds like you had a busy week. Enjoy your fancy Switch machine when you get it.

I noticed that! Your view count will also increase if you’re a 20-something blonde who keeps posting selfies with tiny dogs and other cute things. I’m not desperate enough to sink that low, yet.

My cats are apartment cats I guess. They own my place and don’t go outside.

  7. I came for the backlog update, but I stayed and commented for the cute kitten picture. Adorable! All my cats are ones I have taken in when they showed up at my house. While some were a bit smaller, I never really got to see them in full kitten form. Wish I had! Good luck with those optional dungeons in ReCore. Some of them get pretty tricky.
