Oh wow, look at this! I committed to a weekly post and actually followed through with it. I’m off work until Jan. 2nd (I’m going to be so cranky that day), so I’m enjoying my sweet extra gaming time to its fullest. I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas, are continuing with their glorious cultural celebrations, and most importantly, that Santa was kind to everyone!
Backlog Battle Progress
I love this fucking game so much! After an incredibly enjoyable first hour with the Dark Knight Cecil, I couldn’t put the game down. I was forced to take a few breaks to interact with the family I’m staying with, until tomorrow. But yeah, I honestly can’t remember the last time a game was able to hold my interest for such extended periods. I just completed the Tower of Babil, ending a fire fiend’s reign of terror. My journey so far has been full of badass Paladin action, relaxing Gil/Level grinding, challenging boss battles, airship exploration, and I found out what was up with his royal evilness, King Baron. The game has been cycling through party members like crazy too. It’s really hard on my cranky, yet overly sensitive, heart. I’ve learned to not get attached to anyone except Cecil. It’s probably safe to assume Rosa will be okay too.
My stats so far: Cecil Lv 34, Rydia Lv 34, Kain Lv 36, Rosa Lv 34, and Edge Lv 28. My total playtime is a whopping 17 hours and 52 minutes over a few days. I just “borrowed” a vehicle that can traverse the Underworld easily, and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
More amusing side-questing and no story progression again this week. I used my advanced lock picking skills to break into the ruined Boston Public Library to return a 200 year overdue library book. I can only imagine the late charges on that, if the people running it were still alive that is. The library contained a raging battle between Super Mutants and Protectron security forces, which was already in progress I swear. I stalked around with my buddy Hancock, and cleared out everything left alive to complete this quest. I got loads of ammo and other goodies from the corpses of enemies who had killed each other for me. You have to capitalize on opportunity in this harsh post-apocalyptic world!
My character is still at level 22 but close to a level-up. I have a few more easy side quests to tackle and then I’ll continue with the story line, maybe.
I’m loving those High Jump Boots. They make the platforming mechanics much more forgiving. I managed to snag the Varia Suit with their help as well. Now all of the damage against poor Samus has been halved. Things are looking up! My next goal is to get the stronger Wave Beam from the “No Fair” region, and then I think I’ll try the first boss. I can only imagine how horribly that will go down…
I have 1 Energy Tank and can hold 20 devastating Missiles. My backlog side quest is to beat this before 2017, and next year is quickly approaching.
I had fun in Far Eden this week. The load times are much shorter now, and the map has a convenient “Return to Joule’s Crawler” option that I didn’t notice pre-patch. I’m still working my way through the optional dungeons to get stronger for the ‘Big Bad Boss Bot’ fight. I fully cleared Crucible after a couple of tries. In the optional dungeons, you have to complete all 3 side objectives (time limit, find hidden switches, and find a yellow key) in one run to unlock the big shiny treasure crate at the end of the dungeon. The Crucible is basically just one big room full of rabid robots, with an angry boss bot, Fire Eyes, during the end wave. It was easy to find all the switches and the key, but taking out the angry robots within the time limit was a challenge. I beat it with a mere 8 seconds left on the timer, even though I out level the dungeon. I got lots of colourful Cores and silver rarity parts from the fights, so I also upgraded Joule’s companions, after my victory dance of course.
Glorious Achievement Unlocked:
Workbench Wonder (20 GS) – Crafted 50 parts
Joule’s weapon and Mack are at level 20, Seth is at level 19, and Duncan is at level 18. After my upgrading spree, they all look like mismatched Frankin-Corebots, but they are awesome at kicking ass.
Games shamefully purchased:
The rest of the games I bought for my “Year of Final Fantasy” backlog side quest arrived. This is it for buying games for a while. I mean it… really. Well, thanks to Cheap Boss Attack, I might be buying VVVVVV and Letter Quest: Grim’s Journey soon. But then that’s it!

Random Weekly Ramblings
- I was truly saddened to hear that Carrie Fisher passed away this week. Star Wars just wouldn’t have been the same without her, and our world will certainly be a lot less bright in the absence of this iconic star. I not only remember her as Princess Leia, I also have happy memories of her role in a Christmas chick flick, called “It’s Christmas, Carol!”. Her character made lots of Star Wars references, along with other amusing antics in this otherwise boring film.
- Years ago, I made a New Year’s Resolution to not make anymore New Year’s Resolutions. I’m proud to say I’ve stuck with this and will not be changing a damn thing about myself next year, even though my life could probably use an overhaul. Looking back, 2016 has been a crazy blur of chaos, and I truly hope 2017 is a glorious year for everyone! 🙂
Now if you’ll excuse me, Cecil needs my help to go vanquish evil crystal thieves!
Feel free to share your glorious conquests in that comment area thingy below. I could honestly use more inspiration…
