Firstly, please accept my sincere apologies for my winter themed post last week. It seems I have inadvertently pissed off the cranky God of Winter and he hath unleashed his cold vengeance upon the upper portion of North America, even before the chilly season officially begins. I can’t feel my toes thanks to that damn polar vortex thing, my tailbone really hurts from an icy patch I fell on (my lawsuit for undue emotional stress is pending), and I’m exhausted from trekking to work in the snow. Time served… right?
Secondly, I got more sweet, sweet plastic Amiibo this week! Video games, this awesome blogging community, my sort-of-still-secret wannabe writer project, and cute Amiibo all play crucial roles in making my dull life worth living. Here are the sad new additions to this Amiibo addict’s embarrassing collection:
Monster Hunter Stories Wave 2
I don’t care that these characters are from a game that has no North American release date. They’re insanely cute, made of sturdy plastic, embedded with NFC chips, and the Amiibo logo is displayed prominently on the packaging. Therefore, I needed to add these to my obsessive collection.
Capcom has outdone themselves and created what is in my unqualified opinion, the most epic set of Amiibo to date. I can’t pronounce most of their names, but they all look truly spectacular. As with the previous wave, the riders are removable and can be swapped around. The creatures and the riders are both highly detailed, and they look grand on the ornate silver bases. The paint and construction quality are also superb. My favourite has to be the creature the cutesy anime-looking girl is riding. It looks like a snowy saber-toothed Wyvern.
Rathian & Shuval (or ‘Angry green dragon’ & ‘Red haired dude flailing a detailed sword’)
Barioth & Ayuria (or ‘Majestic snow wyvern’ & ‘Cutesy anime-looking girl’)
Qurupeco & Dan (or ‘Unfortunate small bird-like creature’ & ‘Guy who sort of looks like a bearded Groose from Skyward Sword’)
The Legend of Zelda 30th Anniversary Amiibo
I want all of ze Amiibos, but I REALLY wanted these Amiibo. The Legend of Zelda is my all time favourite video game franchise. Not even my favourite character Lightning can move Ocarina of Time from the prestigious “All Time Favourite Game” spot in my gamer heart. My life is completed now that I own a plastic figure of Link playing his iconic ocarina. Wind Waker Link and Zelda are an adorable pair. They really should have omitted 8-Bit Link’s nose, but the Minecraft-y looking sword on his back is a really nice detail.

Future Hits of the Good Stuff
Like any good addict, I’m already planning how I’m going to obtain my next scores:
- Yarn Poochy – Rumor has it that this will be bundled with the 3DS version of Yoshi’s Wooly World here in North America. Well, it wouldn’t be the first time I bought a game solely for the Amiibo bundled with it. It wouldn’t even be the first time I bought THIS game for an Amiibo actually… *Looks at unopened Wii U copy of Yoshi’s Wooly World in shame*
- BoxBoy – This one is based on a downloadable game from Nintendo that I never heard of until the word “Amiibo” was attached to it. This has only been announced for Japan so far. It will likely get a proper North American launch, but this impatient addict is thinking about importing.
- Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta – Where art thou? Every character from Super Smash Bros. Wii U is suppose to get an Amiibo. Nintendo has been completely silent on if/when these characters will be released. Bayonetta’s developers have teased the rabid Amiibo community with prototype pictures, so this one is at least in development.
To veer slightly off topic, you know what would be freaking awesome? Since Square Enix let Nintendo use Cloud in Smash Bros. Wii U, it would be logical to think that they may allow other Final Fantasy characters in the Switch version of Smash Bros. I think you can guess where my chaotic mind is going with this: a Lightning Amiibo! Make it happen please. ❤
Thanks for reading about my crippling Amiibo addiction! If my post has prevented at least one innocent soul from purchasing an Amiibo, my job is done. If you are planning an intervention for me, don’t bother. I’m on the path to becoming a Green Belt in Combat Hapkido, and just like my badass idol, I will not go down quietly. 🙂
P.S. – Since my cat tried to photobomb one of my pictures, here is a proper photo of my two little monsters, Thumper and Stewart.
Do you collect shiny things? I’d love to hear about your addiction problems so feel free to comment about them. Us addicts need to support each other’s habits!
