New Swag: Monster Hunter Wave 2 and Zelda 30th Anniversary Amiibo

Firstly, please accept my sincere apologies for my winter themed post last week. It seems I have inadvertently pissed off the cranky God of Winter and he hath unleashed his cold vengeance upon the upper portion of North America, even before the chilly season officially begins. I can’t feel my toes thanks to that damn polar vortex thing, my tailbone really hurts from an icy patch I fell on (my lawsuit for undue emotional stress is pending), and I’m exhausted from trekking to work in the snow. Time served… right?

The lovely view from my apartment window. Nothing can make me go back out there… Nothing!!

Secondly, I got more sweet, sweet plastic Amiibo this week! Video games, this awesome blogging community, my sort-of-still-secret wannabe writer project, and cute Amiibo all play crucial roles in making my dull life worth living. Here are the sad new additions to this Amiibo addict’s embarrassing collection:

Monster Hunter Stories Wave 2

It only took 4 days for these to arrive from Japan! Thank you AmiAmi for once again being my speedy dealer.

I don’t care that these characters are from a game that has no North American release date. They’re insanely cute, made of sturdy plastic, embedded with NFC chips, and the Amiibo logo is displayed prominently on the packaging. Therefore, I needed to add these to my obsessive collection.

Capcom has outdone themselves and created what is in my unqualified opinion, the most epic set of Amiibo to date. I can’t pronounce most of their names, but they all look truly spectacular. As with the previous wave, the riders are removable and can be swapped around. The creatures and the riders are both highly detailed, and they look grand on the ornate silver bases. The paint and construction quality are also superb. My favourite has to be the creature the cutesy anime-looking girl is riding. It looks like a snowy saber-toothed Wyvern.

They even come with instructions. I don’t understand Japanese but I’m pretty sure this means the riders are removable. Just a wild guess though.

Rathian & Shuval (or ‘Angry green dragon’ & ‘Red haired dude flailing a detailed sword’)

Barioth & Ayuria (or ‘Majestic snow wyvern’ & ‘Cutesy anime-looking girl’)

Qurupeco & Dan (or ‘Unfortunate small bird-like creature’ & ‘Guy who sort of looks like a bearded Groose from Skyward Sword’)

The Legend of Zelda 30th Anniversary Amiibo

I can never have too many Link Amiibo. I almost bought a 2nd OoT Link to keep one boxed, but I felt that may be crossing a line. Oh, and the furry tan coloured thing in the corner is one of my two cats, Stewart.

I want all of ze Amiibos, but I REALLY wanted these Amiibo. The Legend of Zelda is my all time favourite video game franchise. Not even my favourite character Lightning can move Ocarina of Time from the prestigious “All Time Favourite Game” spot in my gamer heart. My life is completed now that I own a plastic figure of Link playing his iconic ocarina. Wind Waker Link and Zelda are an adorable pair. They really should have omitted 8-Bit Link’s nose, but the Minecraft-y looking sword on his back is a really nice detail.

Future Hits of the Good Stuff

Like any good addict, I’m already planning how I’m going to obtain my next scores:

  • Yarn Poochy – Rumor has it that this will be bundled with the 3DS version of Yoshi’s Wooly World here in North America. Well, it wouldn’t be the first time I bought a game solely for the Amiibo bundled with it. It wouldn’t even be the first time I bought THIS game for an Amiibo actually… *Looks at unopened Wii U copy of Yoshi’s Wooly World in shame*
  • BoxBoy – This one is based on a downloadable game from Nintendo that I never heard of until the word “Amiibo” was attached to it. This has only been announced for Japan so far. It will likely get a proper North American launch, but this impatient addict is thinking about importing.
  • Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta – Where art thou? Every character from Super Smash Bros. Wii U is suppose to get an Amiibo. Nintendo has been completely silent on if/when these characters will be released. Bayonetta’s developers have teased the rabid Amiibo community with prototype pictures, so this one is at least in development.
To veer slightly off topic, you know what would be freaking awesome? Since Square Enix let Nintendo use Cloud in Smash Bros. Wii U, it would be logical to think that they may allow other Final Fantasy characters in the Switch version of Smash Bros. I think you can guess where my chaotic mind is going with this: a Lightning Amiibo! Make it happen please. ❤

Thanks for reading about my crippling Amiibo addiction! If my post has prevented at least one innocent soul from purchasing an Amiibo, my job is done. If you are planning an intervention for me, don’t bother. I’m on the path to becoming a Green Belt in Combat Hapkido, and just like my badass idol, I will not go down quietly. 🙂

P.S. – Since my cat tried to photobomb one of my pictures, here is a proper photo of my two little monsters, Thumper and Stewart.

This is what I like to call the “Stop playing video games and pay attention to us!” look.

Do you collect shiny things? I’d love to hear about your addiction problems so feel free to comment about them. Us addicts need to support each other’s habits!

  1. This post made me laugh. I WANT those Link Amiibos in my house! They look freaking awesome. Currently, I do not have an Amiibo obsession (yet), I do however have a very odd collection of video game themed art all around my house. Halo Lego sets, Modern Warfare wall art, Minecraft sets, original gameboy on display, etc. I may have to open up a new category on my page just to talk about all of it.

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed it! I had fun writing it. This was my public service post to prevent people from falling into the Amiibo trap. My addiction all started with me just wanting the Super Smash version of Link 🙂 That video game art sounds interesting! I’d like your see it on your blog.

  2. I’m slowly coming around to just the Legend of Zelda amiibos, since I really do love all things Zelda… Video-game related collectables are actually usually the hardcover Prima guides because I’m a nerd. I have a few unique do-dads here and there, but nothing I seriously “collect.”Although, I have Anduril and the Ranger’s sword from LotR, and am saving up for Sting… and the Master Sword. But then my wall will look like an armory so I’ll have to stop haha

    1. My advice is don’t get any Amiibo or you could potentially end up like me. Super Smash Link is what started this whole addiction for me. Just a warning.

I’d love to collect the Prima guides for my games! It’s nice to look back on them after you beaten the games. Also those weapons sound awesome!! I’d also love to have a Master Sword someday. Sadly, the nice folks at Visa will probably come after me if I branch out beyond Amiibo. I need to win this lottery thing I hear people play a lot.

  3. I love that they have an 8-bit Link! I want those Zelda figures, too. That series is a staple of my childhood, and ughhh the polar vortex got us, too. It’s gone now, and the weather is weirdly warm like 60 degrees the week before Christmas warm. We had snow yesterday. I have no idea what’s going on.

    1. I know eh? He’s so adorable! I’m sure I already warned you by now but: DO NOT buy any Amiibo. The addiction just starts with one. Polar Vortex would make a great video game area name.

I’ve accepted that nature, and our entire world, is just simply messed up, lol.

      1. It’s bad enough I have Funko Pops! I do agree with another blogger insofar as they don’t really look like the characters, but they’re cute and not as expensive as more refined figurines so it’s easier to collect them.

I could see the Polar Vortex being a portal to some other world located in the polar regions. Hm, I may have to do something with this idea.

  4. I always wanted to collect ambiios… Anyways, I collect statues and posters. I have tons of posters around the office with Fallout and Rockstar posters, mainly a GTA III and RDR posters. I’m sucker for Rockstar….

I have an Xenomorph statue, and that’s really all.

    1. My advice is to stay away from the evil Amiibos. They are deceptively addictive… 🙂

Those posters and the Xenomorph statue sound awesome! I wish they had more GTA swag. I’d love to have figures of the main characters from the series.
