Aimlessly Wandering 8-Bit Hyrule
I started playing the original Legend of Zelda on my restored NES. My first thoughts were “Where the hell do I go?” and “Why is this creepy man in a cave giving me a sword?”. I wandered around the 8-Bit open world, and crushed a few pesky Octorks. I soon found myself lost without any direction, so I decided to follow a guide. I guess I’ve turned into a spoiled modern day gamer who needs some hand holding. The Legend of Zelda is my favourite video game series, and I’m enjoying playing through the original. It’s inspiring to see the 2D ancestors of the Zelda enemies that I first met in 3D. I’m only slightly ashamed that I’m using a guide to find the dungeons/hearts… Right now I’m on the 4th dungeon. Guide or not, Manhandla as a mini boss is proving to be a challenge.
Settling Into Post-Apocalyptic Boston
Poor neglected Fallout 4… I don’t know why, but I have to force myself to sit down and play this great game. I’ve had it since launch day, and there’s really no excuse for having put in less than 10 hours so far. I’m going to try silencing my inner trophy hunter, and just focus on having fun with it. I want to see the main storyline, and get as many side quests done as possible. Right now, I’m having way too much fun with the settlement creation introduction quests.
Avoiding the Pokemon Go Craze
Everywhere I look I see people happily catching Pokemon in their own augmented reality world. My non gamer coworkers are big on it, and one of them actually had to call in sick because they hurt their leg walking so much. I downloaded the game, caught a Charmander, then a few random ones out of boredom, before calling it a game. I don’t hate it or anything. It’s just not something I want to invest time into. I love seeing all of the families out in the world hunting Pokemon together though.
The Swag Addiction Continues
Thankfully, Nintendo has been going easy on my crippling Amiibo habit. The next major wave isn’t scheduled to arrive until November, but my video game swag addiction demanded I buy something plastic in the meantime. I found a lot of Final Fantasy Play Arts Kai figures on eBay for a really cheap price. I was shocked at how big they were when the arrived (about 9″ tall). They are all intricately detailed, and resemble the characters really well. I do find them way too fragile though. The seller was upfront about Cloud having a broken leg, and you can see my failed attempt to fix it. I also had to buy doll stands so they would stop falling over. I’d never pay full retail price for these, but I’m happy I got them at a huge discount.
The Entertainer Blog Award 2.0
I’m honored that another talented blogger has nominated me for this prestigious award! A very special thanks to the Well-Read Mage. His blog is the definition of an entertaining blog, and a great example of what a successful community blog should look like. The party of wise mages that reside there pump out amazing reviews, and there are several community engaging posts. I remember the awesome 31-Day Mage Question Challenge, and the epic list of 200 Games we need to play before we meet with life’s final Game Over screen.
I’ve already had my moment in the spotlight, but I will answer the mighty Mage’s challenging questions anyway.
- What do you hope to gain from blogging?
Honestly, just peace of mind. I find it relaxing rambling about my struggle to wade through my backlog. I also love reading about what other bloggers out there have to say.
- What genre of film entertains you most?
Action-Adventure films. Especially if they have dark/sarcastic humor elements.
- Do you consider yourself a writer, and what inspires you to write?
I consider myself a wannabe writer. I wish I was a talented professional writer, but I’m just a boring person with a regular technical day job, who enjoys stringing cool words into unstructured sentences as a hobby. I love writing my “for my eyes only” novel on the side. My biggest inspiration for it has been how powerless I feel as I witness all of the evils rampaging in our world, and how cruel fate can be to us sometimes. With the right music blasting in my ear, I can sit down for hours and happily write pages about the messed up world I’ve dreamed up.
- What is your biggest pet peeve? Narrow mindedness. It’s okay to have your own opinions. I just wish people would be more tolerant of opposing views.
- Why did you choose your particular WordPress username?
I’m aware of all the online hate for this character, but Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII is my all time favourite video game character. In my eyes, she is a badass who would do anything to save the people she cares about. Her personality is a lot like mine as well. The “Nightnova” part of my username comes from my main character I created in World of Warcraft (After casually playing it for 8 years, I’ve been free of this MMO disease for over a year and a half now. I’m not even tempted to go back for the new expansion, I swear.). The “night” was because she was of the Night Elf race, and the “nova” comes from the province of Canada I reside in, Nova Scotia.
I’d like to disobey the rules this time and nominate anyone who wants to do one of these posts. Feel free to leave a link to your blog in the comments. 🙂
